The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has called for deeper collaboration with state governments and other stakeholders to strengthen transport safety and reduce the risk of accidents across the country.
The Director-General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., made the call on Tuesday in Abuja when the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Tijjani Ahmed Galadima, and his running mate, Adamu Kamale, visited the bureau’s headquarters.
Badeh stressed the importance of translating findings from accident investigations into practical measures capable of preventing similar incidents in the future.
According to him, safety recommendations issued by the NSIB are designed to identify gaps in existing systems and provide actionable solutions for regulators, operators and other relevant stakeholders.
NSIB: Accident Investigation Must Lead to Prevention
The NSIB chief explained that the bureau’s responsibility goes beyond investigating accidents after they occur.
He said the ultimate objective is to learn from previous occurrences, identify systemic weaknesses and ensure that lessons from investigations are converted into preventive actions.
Badeh therefore emphasised the need for stronger cooperation between the bureau, state governments, transport operators, regulators and other stakeholders to improve safety standards across the country’s transportation system.
He noted that effective implementation of safety recommendations would help reduce avoidable accidents and strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s transport sector.
Galadima Commends NSIB
Speaking during the visit, Galadima said the delegation was primarily at the NSIB headquarters to appreciate the bureau’s leadership for its work under Captain Badeh.
He described the bureau’s activities as critical to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians, stressing that transportation safety plays an important role in economic development and mobility.
Galadima noted that safer transportation systems would contribute to a more efficient economy by enabling people and businesses to move safely and effectively.
The visit, according to the NSIB, further highlighted the importance of sustained engagement among government institutions and stakeholders in developing a stronger safety culture across Nigeria’s transport sector.
