Dangote Industries Limited has signed a landmark $800 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sinoma International Engineering Co., Ltd. to expand its Itori Cement Plant in Ogun State, doubling the facility’s production capacity from 6 million to 12 million metric tonnes per annum.
The agreement marks another major investment in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector and reinforces Dangote Cement’s ambition to strengthen its dominance in Africa’s cement industry while increasing exports across the continent.
The MoU was signed by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, and Lin Zhong, Chairman of Sinoma International Engineering, further deepening a long-standing partnership that has delivered several large-scale cement projects across Africa.
Expansion to Meet Local Demand and Grow Exports
According to Dangote Industries, the expansion project will significantly increase cement production to meet rising domestic demand while positioning Nigeria as a stronger exporter of cement to African and international markets.
The company said the investment is expected to boost foreign exchange earnings, create thousands of jobs, support industrial development, and strengthen Nigeria’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading cement-producing nations.
Dangote: Investment Supports Tinubu’s Industrial Vision
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Aliko Dangote described the project as a strategic milestone in the company’s long-term growth plan.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for implementing policies that have created a more favourable environment for private sector investment.
Dangote explained that the decision to expand the Itori facility was influenced by the Federal Government’s renewed emphasis on using concrete for road construction, as well as the company’s ambition to meet growing export demand across Africa.
He noted that the project aligns with Dangote Cement’s Vision 2030, which targets annual production of 90 to 100 million metric tonnes.
“This $800 million investment represents another bold step in strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base and reinforcing our leadership in Africa’s cement industry,” Dangote said.
He added that increasing the Itori plant’s capacity would not only satisfy local demand but also expand exports, generate foreign exchange, stimulate economic growth, and create employment opportunities across the region.
Sinoma Reaffirms Commitment to Nigeria
Chairman of Sinoma International Engineering, Lin Zhong, described the agreement as another significant milestone in the successful partnership between both companies.
He pledged that Sinoma would deploy its world-class engineering expertise and advanced technology to ensure the timely delivery of the expansion project.
According to him, the upgraded facility will further enhance Nigeria’s position as a major manufacturing and export hub in Africa while promoting sustainable industrial development.
Itori Plant Set to Become Major Export Hub
The expansion forms part of Dangote Cement’s broader strategy to increase production capacity, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen its export-driven business model.
When completed, the enlarged Itori Cement Plant is expected to become one of Africa’s largest cement production facilities, supplying both the Nigerian market and neighbouring African countries.
Industry observers believe the investment will further consolidate Dangote Cement’s leadership position while contributing significantly to Nigeria’s industrialisation, infrastructure development, regional trade, and economic diversification.
