One person has died while three others sustained serious injuries after a Lexus Jeep 350 crashed along the Lagos Coastal Road inward Eko Hotel, Lagos.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Friday, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
What Happened
Preliminary information from LASTMA indicates that the grey Lexus Jeep reportedly lost control while travelling along the Coastal Road.
The vehicle then collided violently with a roadside pole before overturning.
The crash left one person dead and three others seriously injured.
LASTMA identified the vehicle as a Lexus Jeep 350 with registration number LSD 554 KV.
The exact cause of the loss of control has not been independently established. LASTMA’s account is based on preliminary findings.
Three Injured Victims Rescued
LASTMA officials monitoring traffic around the Coastal Road quickly moved to the scene after the crash.
The three injured victims were trapped inside the wreckage. With assistance from passersby, they were eventually extricated and taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for urgent medical treatment.
Security personnel from Victoria Island also assisted with the emergency response.
LASTMA officers subsequently removed the damaged vehicle from the carriageway to prevent another collision and help restore normal traffic movement.
Why the Crash Matters
The incident highlights the dangers motorists face when a vehicle suddenly loses control, particularly on busy urban roads.
A crash involving an overturned vehicle can quickly create a second danger for other motorists. Debris, damaged vehicles and sudden traffic obstructions can trigger additional collisions if the road is not secured quickly.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to avoid excessive speed and reckless driving.
He also called on drivers to maintain safe speeds, remain vigilant and obey traffic regulations.
What Happens Next?
Emergency and security agencies are expected to continue their rescue, investigation and safety procedures surrounding the crash.
LASTMA has also urged motorists and members of the public to promptly report road crashes, vehicle breakdowns and road obstructions through its toll-free short code 3367.
For now, the confirmed figures remain one fatality and three serious injuries. The circumstances surrounding the vehicle’s loss of control remain subject to further investigation.
