Ibadan Baby-Selling: Police Rescue One-Month-Old, Arrest Two

Police Rescue One-Month-Old Girl, Arrest Two Suspects

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for ₦2 million in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan.

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged transaction. They include the baby’s 23-year-old mother and the owner of the health facility where the child was delivered.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other people allegedly involved, including the person identified as the buyer.

The case came to light after the baby’s grandmother reportedly raised concerns about the child’s disappearance.

How the Alleged Baby Sale Was Reported

According to the police, Mary Amos reported the matter on October 15, 2026.

She told investigators that her daughter gave birth to a baby girl on September 6 at Ebepraise Health Centre in Ido.

The grandmother reportedly became suspicious after her daughter disappeared with the baby about seven days after delivery.

She said her daughter could not satisfactorily explain the child’s whereabouts, prompting her to report the matter to the police.

The command subsequently began an investigation into the baby’s disappearance.

Police Arrest Mother and Health Facility Owner

Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said officers arrested the baby’s mother for questioning.

The police alleged that she implicated the owner of the health facility, identified as 40-year-old Dr Adeleke Ebenezer, and another suspect, Hassan Oludunni.

According to the police account, the suspects allegedly facilitated the baby’s transfer to a person identified as Odunayo Folawewo.

Investigators said the alleged transaction involved ₦2 million.

The police further alleged that the baby’s mother received ₦1 million, while the health facility owner and Oludunni each received ₦500,000.

These claims form part of the ongoing investigation. They have not been established by a court.

Baby Rescued as Police Search for Other Suspects

The police confirmed that the baby girl had been rescued.

The child’s rescue is a significant development in the case, while investigators continue efforts to locate other people allegedly connected to the transaction.

Police reports identified Folawewo as the alleged buyer and said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the individual.

The command has urged members of the public to report suspected child trafficking and related offences.

Child Trafficking: What the Case Highlights

The incident has drawn attention to the protection of newborns and other vulnerable children.

It also raises concerns about the role that healthcare facilities and individuals may play in cases involving the alleged illegal transfer of children.

Parents, relatives and healthcare workers can help protect children by reporting unexplained disappearances, suspicious arrangements involving newborns or concerns about a child’s safety.

Suspected cases should be reported to the appropriate authorities rather than handled privately.

The police have reiterated their commitment to protecting children and pursuing those allegedly involved in trafficking-related offences.

What Happens Next?

Investigators are expected to continue gathering evidence and tracing the people allegedly connected to the transaction.

The next developments will include any further arrests, possible charges and updates on the child’s welfare.

Until the investigation and legal process establish responsibility, the allegations against the suspects should be treated as allegations rather than proven guilt.

WeGoTalk.com.ng will continue to follow the case and report verified updates from the Oyo State Police Command.
