Declan Rice celebrates after scoring Arsenal’s late equaliser against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Declan Rice struck late to earn Arsenal a 2–2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Declan Rice scored an 82nd-minute equaliser to earn Arsenal a dramatic 2–2 draw against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The Gunners recovered after Harry Kane’s penalty put the German champions ahead, extending Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the competition.

Arsenal showed their resilience by fighting back to secure a 2–2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

The Gunners looked set to suffer their first defeat of the Champions League league phase after Kane converted a second-half penalty. However, Rice struck eight minutes from time to rescue a valuable point for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The result came after an early injury setback for Arsenal, with Bukayo Saka forced off in the opening stages.

Eberechi Eze scored after coming on as Saka’s replacement, while Rice delivered the decisive moment late in the match.

Saka Injury Forces Early Change

Arsenal’s plans suffered a setback when Saka went down with an apparent injury and was replaced by Eze in the 10th minute.

The early substitution threatened to disrupt the visitors’ rhythm against one of Europe’s strongest sides.

However, Eze made an immediate impact.

In the 25th minute, the forward ran on to a superb pass from Martin Ødegaard and finished past Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

The goal was initially ruled offside, but a VAR review confirmed that Eze was onside. Arsenal had taken the lead in a difficult away fixture.

Bayern Respond Through Alphonso Davies

Bayern responded with greater attacking pressure and found an equaliser in the 35th minute.

Kane produced an excellent through-ball to release Alphonso Davies, who broke into the penalty area before finishing past David Raya.

The goal restored parity and gave the home side renewed confidence.

Both teams created opportunities as the contest became increasingly open. Arsenal remained dangerous on the counterattack, while Bayern looked to use their attacking quality to take control.

The teams went into half-time level at 1–1.

Kane Puts Bayern Ahead From the Penalty Spot

Bayern increased the pressure after the restart, and both goalkeepers were called into action.

Neuer made an important save to deny Arsenal from close range, while Raya also produced a strong stop to keep his team in the contest.

The decisive moment appeared to arrive in the 61st minute.

Kane’s effort struck the raised arm of Arsenal defender Jurriën Timber inside the penalty area. The referee awarded a spot kick, and the England captain stepped up to score.

Kane sent Raya the wrong way to give Bayern a 2–1 lead.

The goal put Arsenal in danger of losing their unbeaten Champions League record. Bayern continued to press for a third, but the Gunners remained in the game.

Rice Delivers Late Arsenal Equaliser

Arsenal refused to surrender.

With eight minutes of normal time remaining, the visitors produced a slick attacking move that brought them level.

Substitute Noni Madueke helped build the move before Viktor Gyökeres linked up with Rice inside the penalty area.

Rice raced into space and fired a low shot beyond Neuer in the 82nd minute.

The midfielder’s finish made it 2–2 and silenced the home crowd.

Arsenal then pushed for a possible winner. Timber tested Neuer again in stoppage time, but the Bayern goalkeeper made an important save to preserve the draw.

Neither side could find another goal.

What the Draw Means for Arsenal

The result represents an important point for Arsenal against strong opposition away from home.

The Gunners had to overcome Saka’s early departure and recover after Bayern took the lead. Their late response showed determination, although the defensive lapses that allowed Davies and Kane to score will give Arteta areas to review.

Arsenal remain unbeaten in the Champions League league phase after their opening three matches, having recorded wins over Napoli and Lille before the draw in Munich.

The result also keeps them in contention for a strong finish in the league-phase standings. However, further points will be needed to secure the best possible position ahead of the knockout stages.

For Bayern, the draw will be frustrating. Kane delivered a goal and an assist, but the German side could not protect their advantage during the closing stages.

What’s Next for Arsenal?

Arsenal will now turn their attention back to domestic football before returning to European action.

Their next scheduled Premier League fixture is against Everton on Saturday, October 24. The match gives Arteta’s side an opportunity to build on their fighting display in Munich.

Attention will also turn to Saka’s fitness. His early exit was a concern, but the extent of any injury should not be assumed until the club provides a reliable update.

Arsenal’s next Champions League fixture is scheduled to be away to Slavia Prague on November 4.

The Gunners will want to carry the confidence from their late equaliser into both competitions. Their performance in Munich showed they can compete with elite opposition, but maintaining defensive discipline will be crucial as the season progresses.
