Arsenal’s perfect start to the new Premier League season has come crashing down in spectacular fashion after Brighton & Hove Albion produced a stunning 3-0 victory over the defending champions at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta’s side arrived on the south coast looking to maintain their 100 per cent league record, but Brighton delivered one of the biggest shocks of the young Premier League campaign.

Just 12 minutes into the second half, Brighton struck again.
New signing Chema Andrés headed home from a corner in the 57th minute to make it 3-0, leaving Arsenal with an enormous mountain to climb.
The goal effectively killed the contest and sparked wild celebrations inside the Amex.
Brighton continued to threaten afterwards, with the scoreline arguably flattering Arsenal rather than Brighton according to match analysis.
Arsenal’s Perfect Start Is Over
The defeat brings Arsenal’s unbeaten Premier League run to an abrupt end.
Before Saturday’s game, the Gunners had won their opening four league matches and were sitting at the top of the table with a perfect 12 points.
They remain on 12 points after five matches, while Brighton move to 10 points and third place following their impressive victory.
The result also ends Arsenal’s attempt to begin the campaign with eight consecutive victories in all competitions — a feat the club had not achieved since 1903, when the team was still known as Woolwich Arsenal.
Brighton Make History on Anniversary
The victory was even more special for Brighton as the club celebrated its 125th anniversary.
Fabian Hürzeler’s side are now unbeaten in their opening five Premier League matches and have scored 16 goals, giving them the highest goal tally in the division at this stage.
It was also a remarkable turnaround for Brighton, who had defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup just days earlier.
A Warning Sign for Arsenal?
For Arsenal, the result will raise questions about their ability to maintain their title defence under pressure.
The Gunners had possession for much of the match, but Brighton were more effective in the decisive areas. Arsenal registered just four total shots and one shot on target, according to Sky’s match statistics.
Brighton’s performance demonstrated that possession alone would not guarantee Arsenal control of the game.
For Arteta, the immediate task will be to ensure that one disastrous afternoon does not become the beginning of a damaging run.
For Brighton, however, Saturday’s result will be remembered as a landmark night — a 3-0 demolition of the reigning Premier League champions on the club’s 125th anniversary.
