The British government has sent a warning letter to a TikToker over his “defamatory” comments about Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The letter titled “Formal Warning Regarding Social Media Comments” stated, “It has come to attention that you have been engaging in a dissemination of comments concerning the prime minister Rishi Sunak through various social media platforms.”

While acknowledging the right to express personal opinions, the letter emphasizes the importance of conducting such expressions within the bounds of respectful and responsible discourse.

The letter highlights concerns about the “contentious nature and inflammatory tone” of the comments attributed to the TikToker, particularly those directed towards the prime minister.

“As a responsible citizen, it is essential to understand that freedom of expression does not extend to the propagation of derogatory and potentially harmful statements, especially towards elected officials,” the letter states.

The government warns that the TikToker’s online behavior is subject to scrutiny and dissemination of derogatory comments may not only tarnish his own reputation but also undermine civil discourse in society.

Therefore, the letter serves as a formal warning from the government, advising the TikToker to refrain from making such comments. Failure to adhere to this warning may result in legal consequences.
