At least four people are feared dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries after a disagreement over a Point of Sale (POS) transaction escalated into a violent clash in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, reportedly began as a minor dispute between a customer and a POS operator before spiralling into a large-scale confrontation that drew residents and suspected hoodlums to the scene.
Dispute Turns Deadly
Eyewitnesses said tensions flared after an argument over a failed or disputed POS transaction. What initially appeared to be a routine disagreement quickly degenerated into violence as supporters of both parties allegedly joined the fray.
The unrest soon spread through the neighbourhood, forcing traders to shut their businesses while residents fled for safety amid the chaos.
Several vehicles and other property were reportedly damaged during the clash.
Casualties Reported
Residents said at least four people were believed to have lost their lives, although authorities had yet to officially confirm the death toll at the time of filing this report.
Several injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while emergency responders and security personnel were deployed to restore calm.
