The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun I Area Command has officially welcomed a new Acting Area Controller
At a brief handover ceremony at Idiroko, the incoming Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Olukayode Afeni, praised the impactful leadership of his predecessor and pledged to sustain the Command’s high performance standards.
“Under the leadership of my predecessor, this Command recorded significant operational breakthroughs in revenue collection, enhanced anti-smuggling operations, and improved community engagement,” Afeni said. “Your dedication and strategic foresight have undoubtedly raised the bar, leaving behind a legacy worthy of emulation. I salute your efforts and wish you success in your future endeavours.”
Deputy Comptroller Afeni underscored the strategic importance of the Ogun border corridor to economic growth and national development. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations, strengthened stakeholder collaboration, and continued constructive engagement with border communities.
He further urged officers and men of the Command to uphold discipline, professionalism, and integrity, noting that their collective success rests on ethical conduct and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.
In his farewell remarks, the outgoing Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, expressed gratitude to the Management of the Nigeria Customs Service for its support throughout his tenure from April 24 to December 3, 2025. He highlighted the Command’s major accomplishments, including significant improvements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations.
“The Command recorded outstanding achievements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling. So far, we have intercepted seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) exceeding ₦1.9 trillion and collected ₦326 billion, compared to ₦213 billion within the same period in 2024,” Otunla noted.
The ceremony ended with goodwill messages from stakeholders and well-wishers, signalling renewed commitment to bolstering security and fostering development across the border communities.
