Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC), Joseph Ikewun has resumed duty as Acting Comptroller of the North-Eastern Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Ikewun officially assumed office at the Command’s headquarters in Makurdi on April 30, 2026, with a focus on enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery.
His appointment is seen as part of the Service’s broader efforts to reinforce maritime security, curb smuggling, and deepen inter-agency collaboration within the Command’s jurisdiction.
Speaking during his assumption of duty, Ikewun pledged to consolidate on existing gains while fostering stronger partnerships with key stakeholders and sister agencies.
“I am committed to building on the solid foundation laid before me. My priority is to strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders and sister agencies to effectively secure our maritime corridors and suppress all forms of criminal activities,” he said.
He added that the Command under his leadership would adopt an open-door policy to encourage communication, teamwork, and mutual respect among officers, with a shared goal of maintaining a formidable presence in safeguarding Nigeria’s waterways.
Ikewun also outlined key operational priorities, including improved inter-agency cooperation to tackle smuggling along waterways and enhanced internal coordination among personnel.
He commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for ongoing reforms and infrastructural improvements within the Service, describing them as a testament to a sustained commitment to professionalism and efficiency.
The North-Eastern Marine Command remains a critical arm of the NCS, playing a strategic role in securing Nigeria’s waterways while facilitating legitimate trade through intelligence-driven enforcement operations.
